Abstract

In this study, neutron and gamma radiation produced during the ITER operation were calculated focusing on the neutrons generated via photonuclear interaction. This is an approach for increasing the nuclear heating by increasing the photo-neutrons. The calculations were conducted using Monte Carlo N-Particle Code and the CAD-based geometry of ITER. It was found that for present design of ITER, photo-neutrons have a small contribution in neutron creation, while substituting the heavy water instead of light water, leads to increasing the both (n, 2n) and (γ, n) reactions from 33 and 0.01 % to 47 and 0.44 % respectively which consequently gives raise to the nuclear heating up to eight times more.
