Abstract

A wear model, developed at the Endicott Development Laboratory of I.B.M., has been used to analyze the wear performance of total hip replacement prostheses. The analysis shows that all-metal prostheses are better able to resist significant wear than metal to plastic joints, and indicates the effect of diameter on the wear resistance of all-metal prostheses.
