Abstract

Objective To analyze the ultrasonographic characteristics of pelvic abscess and the cause of misdiagnosis. Methods The data on the ultrasonographic characteristics of pelvic abscess and the cause of misdiagnosis in 25 patients were retrospectively analyzed. Results The appearance of pelvic abscess on ultrasonography was various, mainly pelvic masses with round or irregular shapes and absence of ovarian structure. Ultrasonography for pelvic abscess lacked specificity, with a diagnosis rate of 38%. Con clusions Ultrasonography for pelvic abscess has a higher misdiagnosis rate and should be integrated with the clinical demonstrations and laboratory tests to improve the accuracy of the diagnosis.
