Abstract

In this study, we explored the effect of personality on the immediate response syndrome tendency pertaining to use of Internet services such as e-mail and social networks. We administered Kanoh’s (2016) immediate response syndrome scale and the Japanese version of the Ten Item Personality Inventory (Gosling et al., 2003; Oshio et al., 2012) to 283 university students. We analyzed the data using structural equation modeling. The results showed that IRS tendency is not related to low tolerance for stress, but to spontaneous behavior and openness to social collaboration. We also found that IRS tendency is not a planned action, but a spontaneous behavior.
