Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of vitreous surgery combined with silicon oil tamponade for patients with retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment. Methods Seventeen patients who underwent vitrectomy with silicon oil tamponade were retrospectively analyzed. The corrected visual acuity and intra ocular pressure (IOP) before and after surgery, the rate of retinal reattachment and the rate of recurrent retinal detachment were analyzed. Results The rate of retinal redetachment after first surgery was 47.0%,the recurrent retinal detachment was 53.0%,and the rate of retinal reattachment was 82.4%.The average best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 2.54before surgery and 1.90 after surgery.Average IOP was 8.41mmHg before surgery and 82.4% after surgery. There were no other complications but for cataract and elevated IOP temporarily. Conclusions Vitreous surgery combined with silicon oil tamponade for patients with retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment is efficient and safe. Key words: Retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment; Vitreous surgery; Silicon oil tamponade
