Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of some data obtained from a life test on a group of relays. Observation of the data indicated that the fitting of the common failure distribution, the one parameter exponential, was not appropriate. As a result a model was used which assumes that the hazard rate, λ(x), is a step function. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the different hazard rates and the points at which these rates change.
