Abstract

It is investigated whether the structure functions of nuclei in the quasielastic region can be described in terms of interacting nucleons only. A Glauber-like multiple scattering theory for inclusive processes is used to analyze the longitudinal structure function of carbon at fixed momentum transfers between 450 and 600 MeV/ c. Although individual fits are quite satisfactory the energy dependence of the final state interaction parameters is found to be rather strong and the transverse structure function is underestimated systematically.
