Abstract

Solar photovoltaic (PV) fed water pumping solutions systems have been widely acknowledged for their successful roles in developing countries. The improved performance of pumping solutions has been continually researched utilizing primary modeling of its MATLAB simulation integrating induction motor and centrifugal pump. In this paper, the motor-pump model uses a Cuk type converter utilizing INC algorithm, stepping up the voltage produced by the solar PV array and drives the single-phase induction motor. In order to reduce the lower frequencies harmonics, the Cuk converter is coupled with full-bridge sinusoidal PWM inverter and LC filter at output end for filtering purposes. System configuration has been modeled in Matlab/Simulink environment and validated the mathematical expressions. With the PWM controlled technique, steady output voltage is achieved and fed to drive the motor-centrifugal pump module. It is found that optimum voltage-frequency relationship controls the speed of the motor with a given system water head, and improved motor-pump operational performance.
