Abstract

Geomagnetic pulsation activity and local turbulence have been investigated at three stations located at different latitudes (L'Aquila, L ∼ 1.6; Tuckerton, L ∼ 2.6; Iqaluit, L ∼ 13.0) for ∼25 days during 1988. Hourly power spectra have been calculated in the period range 21.3–640.0 s (Pc3–Pc5) for the entire period of time. Enhanced Pc3 activity has been found at L'Aquila, the lower latitude station, and, in the lower frequency limit of the Pc3 band, at Tuckerton, but higher Pc3 levels are seen at Iqaluit, the highest latitude station. Spectral slopes ranging from ∼ − 1.5 to ∼ −4.0 have been found, and sharp changes in spectral slopes are seen to occur in different frequency bands.
