Abstract

Every organization require skilled and efficient workforce. Productivity and performance of a company depends largely on human resources employed in the organization. But it?s very rare that every company find ideal people who are competent enough having desired skills and experience. In order to build a superior workforce companies conduct training programmes according to their requirements. The purpose of training is to impart desired skills and work-related knowledge to employees to enhance their performance and turn them into valuable asset. Many researches have been conducted which shows that Training and Development programmes have positive impact on employees? performance. Even though training is a useful tool for developing a better workforce, there are a number of issues that affect the effectiveness and results of training programmes. Also scope of training programmes have now broadened. Companies while designing training programmes should not only focus on improving skills of employees, but also teach employees how to communicate their knowledge and apply it creatively to alter products or provide customer assistance. The objective of this paper is to analyse various studies conducted by researchers to find out the impact of training and development on performance of employees, discuss training issues and high leverage training to enable the organisations to enhance their firm value.
