Abstract

This article aims to suggest the direction of in-service Korean language teachers` training program by analyzing in-service Korean teachers` needs. For this purpose, this study firstly investigated the concept of Korean language teachers and then categorized in-service training program types. Secondly it analyzed the needs of in-service Korean language teachers on their training program. The needs analysis is conducted targeting 250 native and foreign Korean language teachers and in-depth interview with some Korean teachers, language education institute officials, and a few policy officials. The needs analysis showed that the teachers` needs for training program are different as their variables such as the institutes they belong to, diploma, and career etc. Therefore the program should be designed according as these different needs. Lastly this study suggested some educational and political proposals for the development of in-service Korean language teachers` training program.(The National Institute of the Korean Language)
