Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze institutional variables that affect the drop-out of private junior college students. College finance, educational conditions and educational activities were selected as institutional variables of junior colleges, while the drop-out rate were selected as dependent variables. The subjects are 128 private junior colleges whose data are all disclosed between 2015 and 2017, and a multivariate potential growth model was used as the research method. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, it was analyzed that the educational expenditure per student among the education finance variables has a negative effect on the drop-out of students in common among all the analysis results. Second, upon the junior colleges in the capital metropolitan area, it was analyzed that the initial value of full-time faculty acquisition rate among educational condition variables has a positive effect on the rate of change in the drop-out rate of students, and that the initial value of number of students per full-time faculty member among the educational activity variables has a negative effect on the rate of change in the drop-out rate of students. Finally, upon all and non-capital area junior colleges, it has been shown that the competition rate of admission among education activity variables has a negative impact on the rate of drop out of students. Based on the results of these analyses, the characteristics of all junior colleges in capital and non-capital areas were discussed respectively.
