Abstract

Rationale: Glutamine is the main amino acid which is a substrate for gluconeogenesis in postoperative period. It is suggested that this leads to a substantial and a long-term decline in glutamine concentration. Glutamine is a source of energy for the synthesis of nucleotides, lymphocytes and cells of gastrointestinal tract.
