Abstract

SUMMARY A social survey was conducted in three ecological zones of Nigeria to examine the potential for integrating agroforestry into traditional farming systems. The survey showed that agroforestry is an acceptable form of land use but in a preliminary stage of adoption. The willingness of farmers to integrate trees into farming systems was based on a variety of mutually exclusive choices. The promises and expectations of agroforestry will remain elusive unless investment motivating factors are clearly seen by farmers.
