Abstract

This paper on an analysis of factors affecting SME’s exporting efforts in Zimbabwe. A case of the agriculture sector was undertaken so as to analyze factors affecting SME’s exporting efforts in Zimbabwe.Moreover this paper aimed to identify challenges faced by SMES in Zimbabwe towards exporting, to establish drivers of SMES export effort in Zimbabwe and to identify strategies that can be adopted to enhance SMEs export endeavors. It was established that SMEs face challenges such as financial resources, managerial resources, information asymmetry, registration and licencing, product related challenges, management skills, technological challenges, competition and distribution challenges. SMEs in Chinhoyi are encouraged to adopt a strategic approach to exporting. This is possible when they create a department which creates and implement a strategic exporting plans. Strategic exporting plans means adopting an exporting policy and reporting all exporting practices in the media. This would assist SMEs in Chinhoyi to generate more information on exporting at a global level and clearly understand the meaning attached to exporting by other partners in business.
