Abstract

The term is subjective. Based on the context in which it is used, an image can become a forgery. An image that has been edited for fun or someone who took a bad photo but has been modified to make it look better cannot be considered a forgery even though it has been changed from its original capture. In the present scenario, since powerful image editing tools are commonly used, there is a significant increase in the demand to identify an image's authenticity. It is a major challenge to decide whether a digital image is authentic or altered. It is a difficult task to find the marks of manipulation in a digital image. Now, these tampering traces can be done by various operations known as rotation, scaling, JPEG compression, Gaussian noise, etc. known as attacks. To test the originality of digital images, technology has been innovated. In recent years, distinct techniques have been suggested in this arena of research to detect the above-mentioned attacks. This paper provides a detailed overview of various approaches and methodologies used to detect the forgery of images.
