Abstract

The Chinese population consists of one ethnic majority and 55 ethnic minorities, among which the ethnic Korean minority is one of the most significant. In 2010, the Sixth Chinese National Population Census showed that the Chinese Korean minority has a population totalling 1,830,929, ranking 14th among the minorities. Each year, the Chinese Koreans hold wrestling competitions on traditional holidays such as the Dragon Boat Festival (5 May of the Lunar calendar) and the Mid-Autumn Festival (15 August of the Lunar calendar).Korean wrestling is a unique traditional folk sport invented by the people of the Korean Peninsula, and the Chinese ethnic Korean wrestling sport's rules have changed three times throughout history, borrowing much experience from the South Korean Ssireum.
