Abstract

The theoretical treatment of adiabatic equilibrium sorption of Amundson ea. [1] has been extended and modified to permit a rapid analysis of a large variety of cases arising in such operations. The qualitative shapes of the various concentration and temperature profiles are easily established by the relative variations of the slopes of the characteristic curves in the concentration domain. Profiles arising under zero and non-zero initial loading conditions are considered, as well as the important cases giving rise to shock type profiles and pure thermal waves in both adsorption and desorption. The results lead to some conclusions of indutrial importance.
