Abstract

1. 1. A comparative analysis of freeze-dried bovine and porcine blood used for maintenance of tsetse fly colonies at the International Atomic Energy Agency revealed significant differences in several essential amino acids. 2. 2. Bovine blood had higher levels of lysine, methionine, threonine and phenylalanine. 3. 3. Porcine blood had a higher level of isoleucine. 4. 4. Free amino acids in porcine blood were generally higher than in bovine blood. 5. 5. The freeze-drying process raised the pH level and deaminated certain amino acids.
