Abstract
A case of “jaw tumor” referred by the patient's dentist found to be an ameloblastoma. The patient had a skin rash, which laboratory examination proved to be a syphilitic infection. Antisyphilitic treatment was given for four weeks prior to excision of the tumor mass. Annual clinical and roemgenographic examinations for seven years showed no recurrence. This case illustrates the necessity of visual, clinical, adequate x-ray, and in some cases laboratory examinations before the performance of contemplated surgical procedures.
