Abstract

The article analyzes the socio-philosophical views of Doctor of Philosophy, Professor P.I. Smirnov, as well as the ideas about the historical path of Russia, set out in his book [1]. The attempt made in the monograph to reject the materialistic understanding of history and to approve instead of it "the concept of social significance as the main value of the individual" is criticized. The article shows the inconsistency of Prof. Smirnov's claims to achieve natural-scientific rigor in judgments about social processes. The meth-odology used in the book is regarded as wingless empiricism combined with reasoning speculation. A negative assessment of P.I. Smirnov's ideas regarding the ways of transformation of Russia and the formation of a hypothetical "spiritual-play civilization" is giv-en. The thesis that the concept of P.I. Smirnov is a systemic delusion, which can bring much benefit to qualified specialists is sub-stantiated.
