Abstract

In absence of otolith marking and laboratory rearing, a statistical alternative to validate the daily rhythm of sagittal microincrementation in Puerto Rican juvenile snook Centropomus undecimalis is described. Albeit the technique may be essentially limited to tropical immature fishes, it offers interesting possibilities in post‐validating ageing previously based on assumption of daily frequency of material deposition.
