Abstract
An alternative model of laser clipping distortion for AM-VSB CATV systems is presented. The model predicts the clipping contribution at any channel for all orders of distortion in a closed form solution. The model is shown to closely agree with experimental data and have a substantial improvement over the conventional method. In conjunction with noise requirements, the model is then used to determine the required modulation index, channel capacity, and output optical power.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
