Abstract

For most of the discrete ordinate schemes, the discrete directions are fixed and unable to be arbitrarily adjusted. These schemes are not applicable to collimated irradiation problems. In this work, a new scheme, the Discrete Ordinate Scheme with (an) Infinitely Small Weight(s) (DOS+ISW), is proposed in order to remove this obstacle. In doing this, one or more new discrete directions are added to an existing discrete ordinate quadrature set, and the weights associated with these new discrete directions are set to be infinitely small. Both theoretical and numerical investigations were conducted to valid the DOS+ISW technique.
