Abstract

Evaluating competition for individual tree growth simulation is significant to forest management. However, few existing software were developed for practical use. To analyze the competition of spruce-fir conifer and broadleaf mixed forests in Changbai Mountain, China, an algorithm for Influence-zone overlap competition indices was developed. Firstly, based on different positions of subjected tree crown and competition tree crown, the overlap area and length were calculated separately in their related equations. Subsequently, a drawing flow chart, the user interface and fields of sheet were produced to construct concept models. Finally, the contribution of competition indices to individual tree basal area growth were tested by non-linear extra sum of squares method.
