Abstract

With the popularity of electric bicycles, the potential safety problems such as battery heating and self ignition caused by overcharge of electric vehicles are increasingly prominent. In order to make the battery fully charged and eliminate the hidden danger of overcharge, a trickle charge detection algorithm is proposed and applied to a smart socket. The proposed algorithm combines many technologies such as segmented detection, current gradient change and least square method to realize the accurate detection of trickle charging process for different chargers, which are connected to the smart socket. After the charger enters the trickle charging for 1 hours, the power source is cut immediately to ensure that the battery is fully charged but not overcharged. The technology has been applied to products, and hundreds of test results show that the time error of the proposed trickle charge detection algorithm is less than 5 minutes, and the probability of missing and wrong inspection is zero.
