Abstract

Coupled drawing and false-twist texturing of undrawn polyester yarns offers potential for better dye and bulk uni formi'ty, higher fabric stretch and bulk, and reduced texturing costs. However, the well known age instability of un drawn polyester yarn makes difficult the use of draw texturing by throwsters. The research on which this paper is based defined a feed yam for draw texturing with the age stability required to permit throwsters to use the draw texturing process. The new feed yam is described, and the structural morphology responsible for its age stability is discussed. Results of accelerated laboratory ageing experiments are reported and related to severe warehouse storage exposures. Information is presented on the draw texturing process needed to handle the new yarn and on its textured yarn properties. Product advantages resulting from the draw textured yarns are illustrated.
