Abstract

ABSTRACT THERMOTHERAPY using aerated steam is a safe and effective method of controlling RSD. A treat-ment time of four hours at 125.6 °F (52 °C) with six air changes per minute is needed. Sugar cane need not be detrashed but should be loaded in layers 15 in. (38.1 cm) thick with a space of three inches (7.6 cm) between layers. An automotive steam cleaner can be automated as an acceptable source of steam. A steam temperature control valve commonly used in the process industry is satisfactory to regulate the temperature.
