Abstract
An advanced digital metal impact monitor is described. This system provides a nuclear reactor operator with continuous data concerning the presence or possible presence of a loose part in the primary coolant system of pressurized water reactors. The features of the system are briefly described, with emphasis on the digital signal processing algorithms (which employ multiple microprocessors) and the data presentation techniques. The regulatory requirements and equipmnent functional requirements are also discussed.
