Abstract

Abstract In Great Britain at the present time there is an on‐going effort to eliminate adult illiteracy. The national government made a major commitment to this goal in 1975 and has worked in close cooperation with the British Broadcasting Corporation. This paper describes the program organization at both the national and local levels. In addition, the recruitment and training of literacy instructors, and materials and techniques of literacy instruction are examined.
