An adduct intermediate in the formation of 3,4-dimethyl-4-nitrocyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-one

Abstract

3,4-Dimethyl-1-methoxy-4-nitro-1,4-dihydro-phenyl acetate and the dimethyl acetal of 3,4-dimethyl-4-nitrocyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-one are obtained from the reaction of 3,4-dimethylanisole with nitric acid in acetic anhydride.
