Abstract
An additional ultra-soft grid method is developed to compute the deformation and kinematic of scissor-type deployable structures. By theoretical derivation, in the developed method the additional ultra-soft grid will not affect numerical results of the deployable structures. Based on the numerical and theoretical analysis of a ring array scissor-type deployable structure, it shows that the method is effective to deformation and kinematic analysis of deployable structures. As a case study, the developed method is used to analyze a complex scissor-type inspired net system. It shows that the developed method can also be used to compute the deformation and kinematic of complex deployable structures.
