Abstract

Bandwidth efficient techniques are required to satisfy the demand for future public mobile radio communication systems. Precoding is a nonlinear pre-equalization technique that provides equalization equivalent to a decision-feedback equalizer (DFE) while not being affected by coding. Precoding is shown to be better than conventional equalization over a digital mobile channel that is dynamic in its characteristics. A novel precoding vector quantization scheme is applied to the prediction filter in the precoder and is shown to provide comparable results to the LMS adaptation algorithm while reducing the overheads.
