Abstract

This book is a welcome addition to the body of literature on power system modeling, computation, and control. It is designed to make the advanced topics of modeling, computation, and control more accessible to graduate students, power engineers, and control design professionals. The organization and material in this text reflect the preferences of the authors for 1) the topics covered, 2) the depth of the material included for each topic, and 3) how the material is explained. A distinctive feature of this text is that most of the topics are illustrated with detailed numerical examples. The depth of their respective industry experience is clearly shown throughout the nearly 600-page treatment of the topics. The text is organized into three parts: System concepts; Synchronous machine models and their control; and Advanced power system topics. The book offers a comprehensive list of 243 references and a thorough index as well as color versions of key figures. Each chapter ends with a set of problems, totaling 155 for the entire book.
