Abstract
The paper describes a novel adaptive antenna system (AAS) capable of changing its transmission parameters via a tunable passive radiator according to the structure of the RF propagation channel. The proposed AAS is intended for users' handheld terminals as it addresses the physical size constraints of mobile units. Moreover, the proposed AAS relies on partial channel knowledge when tuning to a different loading state for maximizing the average rate of communication.
