Abstract

An adaptive pulse width modulation (APWM) technique for increasing the optical power efficiency and brightness of projection systems using blue laser is proposed. The proposed approach adaptively drives the current pulse width-modulated signals of blue laser to increase the lifetime and decrease the junction temperature of laser. This APWM technique stabilizes the junction temperature of laser diodes according to the driving environment and the forward current capacity. Through the proposed method, the brightness of blue laser is improved by about 37% compared to the conventional current driving method in a projection system.
