Abstract

We propose an adaptive minimum-frame-error-rate (AMFER) BCJR detector for the read channel in magnetic recording. Compared with the recently proposed AMFER soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA), the AMFER BCJR detector not only produces more accurate soft information, but it also offers improved convergence performance and better robustness to parameter initialization.
