Abstract
System design is a complex process. Modern mechatronical systems with more function requirements, more complex structures, these factors bring complexity and difficulty in design process. This paper proposes a robust design method for complex mechatronical system's conceptual design. This method concentrates on the procedure of customers' requirements–system functions–system scheme, and then establishes the conceptual design process model with the help of the “domain” in Axiomatic Design theory. The conceptual design process model contains three parts of requirement domain, the function domain and the scheme domain. And two design rules are employed in the conceptual robust design model as follow: 1) the main functions are independence in the function domain; 2) the design variables must be robust in the conceptual domain. The function independence rule could guarantee the failure not propagation during the functions implementation process, and the variables robustness rule could ensure the system function and structure resist external interference. This mechatronical system conceptual robust design method could improve the inherent reliability in the system conceptual design stage, and also could shorten the products design and develop cycle and save product design cost. This paper implements this method in a typical product design, and verify its application validity.
