Abstract

This paper proposes an active rectifier with parallel synchronized switching harvesting on inductor (P-SSHI) for piezoelectric (PE) energy harvesting system. The active rectifier employs cross-coupled PMOS transistors and comparator-based active-diodes, which effectively reduces the conduction voltage drop of the rectifier. The comparators in the active rectifier act as the zero-crossing current detector of PE transducer, which determine the turn on time of the synchronous switch to start LC resonance. When the voltage of PE transducer is reversed by LC resonance, the synchronous switch turns off automatically without additional detection and control circuit. Simulation results show that the proposed circuit can effectively improve overall efficiency of the PE energy harvesting system. Compared with full-bridge (FB) rectifier, the proposed circuit can increase the output power to 240%.
