Abstract

We present a design and proof-of-concept test of an activenanometeoroid detector designed for deployment on a picosatellite. Theinstrument is based on detecting the plasma generated by hypervelocityimpacts on an Al nano film supported by a microchannel plate. For theproof of principle test, laser ablation pulses are used to simulatethe hypervelocity impact plasma. The ablation plasma is successfullydetected by the experimental setup.
