Abstract

A new tension control system for wire and sheet materials that is, an active dancer roller system is proposed. It is constructed by using a linear D.C. motor for reducing the variation of the tension of wire and sheet materials. Moreover, the design method of its controller by usipg a modern control theory, the pole assignment method, is presented. Experiments carried out by the apparatus designed by the above method, showed that the active dancer roller system has excellent tension control properties compared with a usual dancer roller system.
