Abstract

This paper presents an NEC acoustic monitoring system and the results of its field trials. The system includes two important functions; acoustic event detection (AED) based on non-negative matrix factorization and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation based on phase voting cross correlation. The AED ranked first in Task 2 of the DCASE2016 Challenge, a public evaluation of AED. The DOA estimation achieved 63% less estimation error than that with a conventional method. In addition, the detection of anomalous acoustic situations is also introduced as part of our new acoustic monitoring approach. The trials for our acoustic monitoring system were conducted in Singapore and New Zealand.
