Abstract

Abstract A design providing achromatic correction to a multipassage magnetic mass spectrometer previously described by the author is presented. The energy spatial dispersion caused by repeated passages in the magnetic prism is corrected by three supplementary mirrors placed in a reinjection loop. From this study one can see that we simultaneously eliminate the energy dispersion term C Δ E / E and the opening angle aberration term C α 2 and we may also eliminate the coupled aberration term C α Δ E / E .
