Abstract
An electro-mechanical device to convert a manually operated grinding wheel downfeed mechanism to an automatic downfeed mechanism is described. The device was designed to impart a downfeed accurate to ±0.0001 mm and was found, in practice, to operate to this degree of accuracy. The device can operate in a variety of grinding modes e.g. exclusively up-grinding, exclusively down-grinding or in combined up-and down-grinding and in either plunge reciprocating surface grinding or in surface grinding with cross-feed.
