Abstract

Single incision gynecologic laparoscopy was first described in 1991, but did not really emerge until 2007 as an advanced laparoscopic approach. This approach is known my many different names and acronyms. Laparoendoscopic single site (LESS) surgery is the accepted acronym to describe this advanced approach. The feasibility of LESS for complex surgical procedures is no longer an issue; however, the generalizability of LESS has been questioned, given the above factors and need for advanced laparoscopic skills. More importantly, it may play an essential role in the reproducibility and diffusion of LESS. Information about training and education on LESS is scarce in the current literature. With the support of AAGL, a working group of expert LESS surgeons and educators developed and described a standardized consensus technique for LESS supracervical hysterectomy that can be easily understood, replicated, and is useful in learning the LESS technique.
