Abstract

The “Radke Trip” is an extended field trip on a great many aspects of geology, biology, and ecology for Racine (Wisconsin) high-school students that has been taken every summer for the last 16 years. The trip begins in Wisconsin and wends its way to various points of interest in seven Rocky Mountain states and five Canadian provinces before returning home after 38 days on the road. The purpose of the trip is to help students learn something about the natural world they live in by experiencing it directly and by taking a large measure of personal responsibility for their own education and their own lives.
