Abstract

Mobile Internet is the trend for the next generation networks and mobile multicast is one of the key technologies in it. However to provide reliable multicast transport service in mobile network is a challenge. Current mobile reliable multicast transport protocols can be categorized into two classes, local recovery and remote recovery according to their policy to solve the out-of-sync problem. Local recovery can provide lost data to mobile host quickly, however it requires large buffers. On the contrary, remote recovery needs small buffers but the time to recovery is long. What's more, it is difficult for remote recovery to choose the retransmission method, unicast or multicast. This paper proposes a new reliable multicast transport protocol for mobile environment, AMRM, which belongs to local recovery. AMRM only needs small buffer to provide reliable multicast service and still keeps the characteristic of quick recovery, so it is an effective reliable multicast transport protocol for mobile environment.
