Abstract

This article describes how the north Texas town of McKinney installed automatic meter reading (AMR) technology in order to more efficiently manage its water distribution, reduce overhead costs, and improve meter‐reading efficiency. The article discusses how the AMR system has become a key management tool used for dispute resolution, leak detection, conservation monitoring, regulation enforcement, and documenting proper meter deployment.
