Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic can be treated as a convenient opportunity to test the sociological theory and key statements of its individual sub-disciplines, including the rural segment of Polish society. The aim of this article is to present illustrative ways of reaction and prevention of problematic situations that the contemporary rural community has encountered as a result of the restrictions introduced by the government. The author focuses on the neighbourhood – the institution he observed during the national quarantine in spring 2020. The discussion focuses on the problem of compliance of actions taken within the framework of this institution with the rules of coexistence in a specific local community. The analysis is aimed at answering the question: is it true that in a crisis the interest of the circle of one’s closest people is put above the interest of the community?
