Abstract

When the topic of Professional Responsibility comes up, eyes tend to glaze over. However, the debate over the appropriate approach to legal ethics in the practice of corporate law has significant consequences. Should the corporate lawyer be disinterested in the moral justification for their actions, or should they use their moral compass in guiding their clients? This paper argues for the latter approach by evaluating the pervasiveness and significance of white collar crime in the practice of corporate law, the proper role of the corporate lawyer, and how law school education in the area of Professional Responsibility can be tailored to implement the necessary changes required to improve the practice and perception corporate lawyers.
